Dallas Mavericks…World Champions…even better next year.
FINALLY!!!!
I waited almost 32 years for this moment…as long as I could remember watching basketball on tv and routing for the Dallas Mavericks, this one was very sweet. I would have to say it was better than the Dallas Cowboys in 1992. My wife managed to get 2 tickets for us to go to the Watch Party at the AAC. She’s the best wife ever! Tickets sold out in 30 minutes on ticketmaster.com. Stupid scalpers try to buy and sell these charity tickets for $100 online when they were being sold for $5. In the end, the crowd, the fans, the city of Dallas was exhilarated that we made it. NBA WORLD CHAMPIONS DALLAS MAVERICKS!
THE TEAM BREAKDOWN AND WHY THEY SURVIVED
LOYALTY LEADS TO LEADERSHIP
Dirk Nowitzski is a true Champion and future HOF. He’s one of the few, present, Super Star NBA players that show loyalty to an organization and nation of Fans. His loyalty and hard work throughout his Maverick Career has brought him to the pinnacle moment for the Dallas Mavericks. He truly let his actions speak for themselves and his team followed his actions. He didn’t have to talk to make them listen. He didn’t have to scream to make them understand. He just kept his focus and kept playing until he was crown the champ! Thanks Dirk! Much Respect! #MFFL
THE KEY ACQUISITION DURING THE OFF SEASON
After the acquisition of Tyson Chandler during the off season, I felt like this team was complete. A couple of other acquisitions during the year helped as well, but Tyson was the key ingredient to making this team the perfect team. His presence inside and mental toughness helped the Mavericks build a true defensive front. His leadership and communication on the floor throughout the year was needed to prepare the team for the playoffs.
THE BRAINS THAT LEAD THE TEAM
It all starts with the right coach for the right players and team. Rick Carlisle needs to get full credit for out coaching every other coach in the playoffs. He knew that he had a great TEAM. He knew that his bench was DEEP. He didn’t listen to the critics who felt like using the bench during the playoffs was a bad idea. He allowed his bench to win the championship! He made BOLD moves through out the playoffs. He made the necessary adjustments during each timeout and each game to propel the Mavericks to this NBA Championship. He too had a chip on his shoulder and wanted to prove the NBA Nation that he’s also deserving of a ring. Congrats Coach!
ON THE FLOOR COMMANDER
When you have a coach that has a vision for your team, you need someone on the floor to execute that vision. Jason Kidd, at only 17 years in the NBA, did this for the Mavericks. The fact that he’s “OLD” only made him that much better. We should change OLD to he’s “Wise and Experienced”.
Wisdom ALWAYS wins over athleticism when it comes to a team sport.
THE SCRAPPY PLAYERS AKA ROLE PLAYERS
Every team needs those players that does the things on the court that is not obvious. You can call them role players, I’ll call them the scrappy players. They will give up their bodies and technical fouls to protect their leaders on the court. They will do what it takes to present fear in the other team. They will wear out the other team and be the set up guys for the starters to finish off the game.
Coach Carlisle used his scrappy players better than any other team I’ve seen throughout the playoffs. He picked the right ones for the right moment and used it as the wounding dagger before the kill.
JET Terry - He came through when Dirk was struggling. He stepped it up when we needed offensive fire power. He was the true wingman for Dirk throughout the Playoffs. he even talked trash to “The King” and assassinated him!
Shawn Marion and DeShawn Stevenson – Shutting down the other team’s stars. They played defense on the best players throughout the playoff rounds. They were a big reason why Roy, Batum, Aldridge, Kobe, Artest, Durant, Westbrook, James, and Wade never dominated any games.
JJ Barea - The energy and pride of Puerto Rico. I claim that he followed me from PR to Dallas. =) He inspired us all by letting us small people know that we can too make it in the NBA. He made the difference on changing the chaotic nature of the court when asked to do so.
Brian Cardinal - The Custodian! I loved his hard nose playing and fearless nature on the court. Then when needed, he just drained some threes in your face! 5 minutes of him on the court each game wore the other team out!
IT’S NOT TIME TO CELEBRATE UNTIL THE FAT LADY SINGS
One of the biggest Statements that Dirk made during the playoffs was when he walked off the floor after beating up the OKC Thunder to go to the Finals instead of sticking around for the interviews. He wasn’t ready to celebrate. He didn’t care. What was there to celebrate? Some of his teammates knew at this moment, they needed to stop celebrating and focus on the Finals. They all followed him to the locker room.
Now that they’ve won the championship, Dirk and the Mavs went out and celebrated in style! They even added insult to injury by celebrating in South Beach at Club Liv. Maybe it’s because of our fans that flew out there to cheer them on. Check out the pictures below courtesty of bossip.com and yardbarker.com
THANKS MARK CUBAN
You did it right when you brought Don Carter to the stage to accept the trophy. Keep it real like always!
REPEAT? I THINK SO!
I’m going to call it out now, I expect the Dallas Mavericks to try to repeat next year. They are going to be still hungry and Caron Butler is coming back. My only concern is if Jason Kidd Retires after this year, but I think the team can convince him to return. There may be a few changes in the lineup but the core 8-10 players will remain the same. They are only starting to play well. =) Let’s Go Mavs!
